Interlock relay is the most cost-effective way to bring a tired driveway, walkway or patio back to life. Over time, Ontario’s freeze-thaw cycles, poor original compaction and water running under the stone cause the base to shift — the stones themselves are usually fine. We fix the cause, not just the surface: lift the stone, rebuild and compact the base, and relay it flat so it stays that way.
Why Fix It Now
Small Problems Get Expensive
Protect Your Foundation
Low spots send rain and meltwater toward the house instead of away from it. Re-grading the base puts the slope back where it belongs.
Remove Trip Hazards
Heaved and sunken stones catch toes, walkers and snow shovels. A level surface is a safer one for family and visitors.
Stop Weeds & Ants
Once joint sand washes out, weeds and ant colonies move in fast. Re-locked joints keep them out.
Cheaper Than Replacing
Catching settlement early means re-using the stone you already own — a fraction of the cost of tearing it out and starting over.
What We Fix
Problems a Relay Solves
Sunken or Dipped Areas
Low spots that hold water and ice every winter — usually a washed-out or under-compacted base.
Heaving & Trip Hazards
Stones pushed up by frost or roots, catching toes, shovels and snowblowers.
Weeds & Open Joints
Joint sand gone, weeds and ants moving in. We reset the stone and lock the joints again.
Driveways
Ruts and tire tracks levelled out so the surface carries cars without shifting.
Walkways & Steps
Front paths and landings brought back to flat, safe and good-looking.
Patios & Pool Decks
Uneven patios relaid so furniture sits level and water drains away from the house.

What Customers Say

“We used JIS services to repair walkways and patio stones all around our property. Front walkway with retaining wall and re leveling all over. Also install a couple new areas with pavers in front of shed and side of gate. Nice job and looks great. The guys were good to work with. Polite and friendly. I can recommend them.”

Frequently asked questions
What exactly is an interlock relay?
A relay means we take up your existing interlocking stones, fix what's wrong underneath — usually a settled or washed-out base — and lay the same stones back down level, with tight joints. You keep the stone you already paid for.
Is a relay cheaper than replacing my driveway or patio?
In most cases, yes — often by a wide margin, because you're not paying for new stone. Our relays run $13–18 per sq. ft. (minimum job $1,350), while new installs also carry the cost of the material itself.
Should I relay or replace?
If your stones are mostly intact, relaying is usually the smarter buy — quality interlock outlasts the base under it. If many stones are crumbling or you want a different look, replacement may make more sense. We'll tell you honestly which one fits when we quote.
Why do interlock stones sink or become uneven?
Almost always it's the base, not the stone. Freeze-thaw cycles, water getting under the surface, tree roots and a base that wasn't compacted properly when it was first installed all let the gravel underneath shift. That's why we rebuild the base during a relay instead of just re-setting the top layer.
Do you refill the joints after relaying?
Yes. Once the stone is back down and compacted, the joints are filled so the pavers lock together again — that's what keeps them from shifting and keeps weeds and ants out.
Do you also install new interlock?
Yes. Besides relays, we build new interlock driveways, walkways, patios and landing slabs. New installs are quoted per project — send us the area and a photo and we'll price it.
What if some of my stones are broken?
We swap out broken pieces with matching stone whenever it's still available. If an exact match isn't made anymore, we'll suggest the closest option and place new pieces where they blend in best.
Can old and new stones be mixed?
Yes. New stone can look slightly brighter at first; cleaning and sealing the whole surface helps everything blend, and the difference fades as it weathers.
How long does a relay take?
It depends on the size and the condition of the base. We give you a time estimate with your written quote, and we finish what we start — we don't leave your driveway torn up between jobs.
Is there a minimum job size?
Yes — our minimum charge is $1,350. Small repairs like a single sunken section are welcome; they're quoted at the minimum.
What areas do you serve?
Toronto, Mississauga, Oakville, Etobicoke, Scarborough, Vaughan and Brampton. Just outside those? Send us your address — we'll tell you right away if we can make it work.
Are you insured?
Yes. JIS Property Services carries $2 million in liability insurance, so your property is protected while we work. Proof of insurance is available on request.
Do you guarantee your work?
Yes. Every relay comes with a 2-year written workmanship warranty — if any area we relay settles or shifts more than ½", we come back and fix it free.
Why book with JIS instead of a referral service?
When you book with us you deal directly with the people doing the work. No intermediary means no added margin on your quote and no message-passing — the person who prices your job is the person standing on your driveway.
